Choosing a signature perfume doesn't mean limiting yourself to a single scent. Instead, consider creating a perfume wardrobe that reflects the different facets of your personality and the occasions you encounter. While it's not uncommon for collectors to have perfume wardrobes that include dozens of perfumes, a basic starter perfume wardrobe consists of 6-10 different scents. This outline can be adapted to your preferred fragrance notes or used to organize the rotation of your existing perfumes.
-
Daily Signature (1 scent): Select a perfume that you can wear every day. This should be a versatile scent that layers well with other fragrances and embodies your core personality traits. It should be suitable for both casual social and professional settings. Since this scent will be in heavy rotation, it's worth considering both a spray and a rollerball (for travel and quick refreshes during the day). Some of our more versatile perfumes that layer well with other scents are: Arabesque, Enigma, Luminae, Supernatural, Ghost Fire, Whisper of Stars, Moss Maiden, and any of our single notes.
-
Seasonal Scents (2-4 scents): If you live in an area with distinct seasons, you may want to consider at least one lighter and fresher perfume for hot weather and one richer, warmer perfume for cold weather. These can be stand-alone perfumes or perfumes that layer with your signature scent. Many people like to have four perfumes, one for each season: a fresher green or floral for spring; a tropical or aquatic for summer; a gourmand, spice, or vanilla for fall; and a wood or resinous amber for winter.
-
Occasion-Specific Scents (1 scent): Have at least one perfume reserved for special occasions. These can be more dramatic, intense, or elegant fragrances that you wear for events like weddings, parties, or date nights. Because of the connection of scent and memory, wearing an occasion-specific scent will help you remember the situation with greater sensory detail and allow you to revisit happy memories.
-
Mood-Enhancing Fragrances (2-4 scents): Sometimes, we want a perfume that matches our mood. Have a couple of scents that you can turn to when you're feeling particularly confident, romantic, or adventurous. Some people like a special cozy scent reserved for self-care rituals/relaxing/sleeping or a sensual one for romantic evenings. If you're trying to build a habit like meditation or are working to develop a specific character (novel writing, RPGs, acting, scriptwriting, etc.), having a special scent that you wear for that purpose is helpful for transporting you into that mindset or role. If you like to travel, having a scent that you wear while adventuring will allow you to keep your travel memories close long after you return. Research shows that having a scent that's reserved for times requiring strong mental focus - deep project work, studying for exams, spreadsheets, etc. can help with memory recall, clarity, and accuracy.
